Shift dresses are my favorite type of dress to wear. Not only are they flattering on practically everyone, they are extremely slimming if you find a style that suits your body type. I have had amazing luck finding great quality fitting dresses from Forever 21 in the Contemporary section of the store. Sizes run a little larger, but the fabric is much better quality than you would normally see and the outfits themselves are more classic and mature. In the past 3-5 years, I have definitely seen a major improvement in Forever 21‘s overall aesthetic in design and quality. I suggest everyone take a gander at what they have to offer now!
PLUS shopping online at Forever 21 gives you the opportunity to return your items for a FULL REFUND! Unlike shopping in the store, which means you only get a store credit.
Now, time to get some shopping done! Did I mention this layered dress is only $29!?

I still can’t believe it is already 2016! And mid January, at that! Is this year going to go by just as fast as 2015?? I’m hoping not…
This was one of my last shoots of 2015, and boy was it a crazy one! We were headed back from Mammoth and had seen this old ghost town on the drive up there. Grayson and I thought it would be such a fun place to try and shoot an outfit if we had time on the drive back to LA. As we start to make the long trek back we literally creep on every town that looks overly rundown and desolate. We finally found the perfect one that had 5-6 old houses fenced off with Private Property signs. This place was literally right off the highway so fingers crossed no one felt like reporting us. We walked around the entire place trying to find the perfect area to shoot and definitely found some interesting stuff going on there! Not only were there old clothes, bed sheets and just crap in general, there were water leaks, broken glass, and fallen down walls EVERYWHERE! It was pretty sketch. But we shot long enough to get some good photos until cars started pulling up and watching us… Talk about creepy!!
It was such a blast and a fun story to be able to tell! And I had the perfect coat from SheIn to shoot! I think it was the absolute perfect look for this location.

As the joy of gift giving fades and the reality of holiday spending hits your bank account this January, bargain shopping for fabulous style is a resolution must. Ideally, we could buy anything we wanted at Neiman Marcus, regardless of the price tag. But that’s not the real world, and besides, it’s just as easy to achieve that $1,000 look without breaking the bank. My motto is wear what you love, no matter your budget. Either of these almost-identical winter looks is perfect for cozying up by the fire or toasting the new year with your girlfriends. With drastically different price tags, you can strut a winter-chic wardrobe in style and within your own budget.
Jewelry is a great example of how to look like a million bucks without spending a fortune. While nice watches and classic jewelry are great investment items, inexpensive costume jewelry is a fabulous way to stay on trend without dipping into your savings for a new pair of earrings.
Over-the-knee boots are the trend right now, and we are seeing them everywhere: in magazines and style blogs, on models and friends. Boots are usually a splurge item for me because a well-made (and typically more expensive) pair of leather boots will last much longer than a poorly made (and typically less expensive) option. However, I broke the bank buying the seemingly splurge-worthy Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots, but then I found a similar pair for less than $300 that I actually receive more compliments on. In this case, save your money for another splurge!
Classic handbags like this Chanel Boy bag are wardrobe staples that can be passed on to your kids and grandkids. These types of handbags are iconic for a reason: They last a lifetime. Years of good use and impeccable style help justify the designer investment. Luckily, if you’re simply not in the market for this type of luxury item, there are countless alternative options that will give you the same style at a fraction of the cost.
Bottom line: I can’t justify $595 on a brand-name cardigan when I can find a look-alike piece from Forever 21 for $21.80. Except for staples (like a black leather jacket), clothing is a savings goldmine. If splurge money were no object, I would regularly purchase higher-quality garments. However, until I hit the jackpot, I will be saving on affordable look-alikes, especially for trends that may come and go in one season.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, everyone!!
How was everyone’s holidays? We headed up to Mammoth Lakes on Christmas to spend a few days in the snow! If you didn’t noticed from my previous Instagram photos, I LOVE the snow! Like giddy child, love the snow! I used to go to Colorado multiple times a year as a kid and young adult to hike, mountain bike and ski. It’s been a while since I have actually been in tons of snow! Mammoth was dumped on the week prior to us coming so it was perfect and even snowed on us the day we got there. We don’t get any snow in Austin so any chance I have for a white Christmas; count me in!
I finally got to bundle up and be a frozen snow bunny! The day before we left for this trip I found the cutest fur trimmed hooded jacket at Banana Republic that was on sale and then 50% off of that!! PSSTTTT… They’re sale is still going on!

GUYS! I can’t believe Christmas is tomorrow. Who else think the holidays got here WAY too fast?? It feels like summer was yesterday! I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year surrounded by your family and friends.
Grayson and I decided to pack up and head to California to see my family and then head up to the mountains in Mammoth for a little Christmas snowboarding! Can’t wait to be back up in the snow since we get absolutely 0 in Texas. Speaking of no snow in Texas, it is literally 80 degrees right now!! :/ No dreaming of a white Christmas there!
I do remember one year about 6-7 years ago and it actually snowed a ton ON Christmas Day in Fort Worth! It was so magical and fun being surrounded by family, cozied up next to the fire while it snows outside.
Enough of me rambling!! I wanted to post a super cute dress that I found at H&M that is perfect for winter and spring! Not only can you make this cute dress a little dressier, but you can also make it quite casual in the summer as well. Extremely versatile and it is extremely comfortable! And the best OTK boots are on sale for $157!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone!!

Sequins and stripes are two of my favorite things and when they are in combination together; even better! I partnered with Banana Republic to show off a few of their new, Fall 2015 Winter line and have to say, I am definitely impressed. I feel like they are catering more to the everyday woman; not only business wear but cozy and casual too! Now that I am self employed and work from home quite a bit I need to be in casual, yet super chic clothing whenever I can. This striped top and beaded zip-up are absolutely perfect to throw on with a pair of jeans and heels.
And we definitely need to talk about accessorizing these casual looks. The Peach Box and Marc Bale have come out with some amazing watch designs that will go with anything and everything; dressy or casual.

Photos by Melissa Glynn Everyone who knows me understands why I always wear my hair straight. I literally cannot get my hair to hold a curl for longer than 5 minutes to save my life… HORRIBLE! I want those super cute beachy waves that I keep seeing on all of my friends and fellow blogger pals! But I just stare in envy, wishing I had cool hair. Sad face. Anyway, I figured after cutting 9″ off a few months back that my hair would actually hold a curl a little better since all of that weight is gone. And sure enough… Martha Lynn worked her magic with some help from Living Proof and, BAM, I had curls!! For more than half the day! HOORAY!!! I’ll give you the Cliff Notes on this super simple, everyday curls tutorial. See the entire step-by-step HERE on the Living Proof Blog. We sprayed Instant Texture throughout her dry hair and then blew it out so it would have some grip and texture. Spray Flex on each section of hair (I’m using long vertical sections about 1-2 inches wide here). Make sure you are heating up the entire strand of hair. Most women start the curling iron at the bottom and then roll it all the way up to the root. The curls will look borderline “Clara” from the Nutcracker at first. But trust me – once you run your fingers through your hair and brush it a little, the curls will settle into perfectly natural curls waves (and they’ll last!). We finished the look by flipping her part to a deep side part to create volume on top and touched up the curls throughout the crown by wrapping small strands of hair around the barrel.
